Default 8BA Oil Pan Cleanout Plate-For trucks only?

1) Is the 8BA Oil Pan Cleanout Plate applicable only to Pickups and Trucks and what is the advantage?

2) Can we measure crank throw by removing Cleanout Plate rather than removing cylinder head?

As always thanks to you kind folks for any replies.

The clean out lets you clean the oil pickup screen, and allows for more places to leak. I suppose if one was really ingenious you could figure out a way to measure stroke...some how.

The early Ford tractors also had a "clean out" panel on the oil pan.

I use one on the 8ba in my '39 p/u for tie rod clearance.

The oil pickup dome takes up almost all the room above the plate. I don't know how you could really measure anything with confidence.

Crank throw: Remove a spark plug, insert a long cable tie, welding rod, etc, hand crank it over, measure.

Don't the spark plugs sit over the cylinder valves or is there enough room to insert a measuring stick?

Yup. You won't be doing that with a flathead V8, removing a spark
plug doesn't get you a look at the piston top....

That's about the extent of it.

You can get a good measurement of the exhaust valve lift, though.
