Not sure but I am a rare breed of folks that only like old ford trucks and old toyota landcruisers. Anything denso is a huge plus in my book. There are actually British enthusiasts that still buy NOS lucas electronics......

I am using a nippondenso off of an 84 Suzuki Samurai on my 32 5-window project listed in my signature. 70 amp, small, and available at the local Advance and the like. I also bought the plug .....

Can't help with the size, but probably close to 13 mm, I think.
I'm a big believer in the Denso product and also use one on
my 32 Tudor. It's driven off the rear U joint yoke.

The alternter I used for my 5-window project is a Nippondenso from an 87 Suzuki Samurai. Comes with a V belt pulley.
There's a 70 amp and a 55 amp version. Mine is the 70 amp. I bought it at O'Reilly Auto Parts ......

Make sure you get the pigtail to tie into your harness too. This is the harness my alternater uses and there is a diagram on line on how to wire it:

Hi Kahuna, I often fantasize driving an accessory from the rear. Any chance of a pic? Thanks anyway, good just to know, if you do it I can do it.

As per Nippondenso, I too will attest to good performance on many vehicles.

Just curious ... with an under-car alternator mounting - when you go through rain the alternator is protected from water hitting it?

I had 2 Chevy alternators on 2 of my Fords for a while but didn't like
the look of them. A friend gave me the 2, he bought them for his and his
fathers 35 and 36. After 2 weeks they said they didn't work as good as the
generators and took them off. They did a lot of local city driving and the
alternators didn't charge at low RPM's. I talked to the old expert at the
auto electric shop and he said he could fix them for $35.00 each. He put
24 volt stators in them and with stock Ford pulley's they both charged at
idle. I didn't like the look of them so I purchased 7 nippendenso alternator
parts. The shop got me the parts I wanted, I didn't want the diodes or
voltage regulators. I machined shaft adaptors that were a tight fit on the
alternator shaft with the front to fit a Ford front generator bearing and the
casting from the front that holds the generator to the intake manifold.
I used a generic adjustable 6 volt regulator and reverse polarity diodes.
Everything is mounted in the generator case with the electronics mounted
on the rear cover with a plug so I can replace the rear cover on the road
if required. After 7 or 8 years I haven't had any problems. They charge at
idle and I can adjust the output with a small screw driver through a small
hole in the rear cover. G.M.

Looks very similar to the ones Whitney sells, wonder if that is what they are using for the guts?

I have no idea what they use. I just found the smallest alternator
they had available at the time. I wouldn't be surprised if there are
smaller ones available now. G.M.
