Default 8BA in a model A - Radiator question

Hi All,

I'm having a radiator build for a 1952 8BA flathead to fit into a 1930 model A.
I can take measurements between the water pump spouts for a left/right spacing, but the motor is not yet in the chassis so I can't take measurements from the bottom for them to mount the lower house spouts on the radiator.

Does that make sense? Any advice for me?

Thanks,
Carl

The stock A lower hose comes very close to the frame, I would match it on the right side. The 8BA is longer than the 59-A, check overall length to see that there is room for everything.

Stock 1930 model a frame, and no, haven't started welding yet. Getting all my parts in order and rebuilt as needed.

The line up,
- 1952 8BA flathead
- 1932 K member
- 1939 trans
- 1939 rear end
- all Ford juice brakes (modern master)
- F1 steering box
- NO BODY MODS

...thats the plan. I have almost everything except front drums.

No need for welding. Easily fabricated mounts can be bolted to the frame,

This is purely opinion on my behalf..The model a frame was not designed to bear suspension load through the front radius rods, nor was it designed to bear the weight and design of the V8 front engine mount. If I was putting an 8BA in a model A I would box the frame rails..double redundant? Perhaps..

I'm following the Tardel playbook - he's seem to have build a few.

Stunning! Thanks for posting.

My plan is to build a whole separate chassis and running gear and move the body leaving the original running gear in shape. In the future I would like to build a pre-war race body on the original chassis. Your motor would be perfect for that. Could you tell us more about it and post more pic?

Thanks,
Carl

Compared to what other folks do its small potatoes..increased fuel,B cam, increased compression, better flowing exhaust, mechanical advance distributor.Makes about 60 to 65 horse I guess.Putting it in front of a mitchell OD and 3.78 rear, model a trans..Basically a slightly warmed up touring A,like they say if it aint fast, make it shiny..

BTW,grew up on the Island, mother from Ft Hamilton, brother worked in Red Hook..got some Brooklyn priors..

Model As are limited in the distance between the normal radiator location and the normal firewall location. 1928/29 are more so than the 1930/31 but not by much. Vern & Mike used the 59 series for a better fit on purpose. There is a lot of difference in the 8RT type pumps and the 78 series pumps in distance of frontal protrusion plus the generator mounted fan can be used.

The HAMB has far more information about different ways to set up an AV8 than the Ford Barn since that is it's intended purpose. 8BA family engines can be made to fit but it all has to be mocked up together unless you do it exactly like Mike & Vern did it. There are also mistakes in that book or at least, there are in the earlier printings like the one I have. Mike Bishop made this plain in several posts on the HAMB.
