Default 1949 overdrive

If I bypass the cut out switch do I hook up directly to the governor? Does the switch have to be removed?

You can leave the kickdown switch in place, but the governor wire has to be hooked directly to the governor terminal on the relay. I suggest you put a switch in the governor wire to disable the overdrive electrics if it is locked out

The later cars starting in 51 or so had no lock out switch at all. It's just a matter of connecting the two wires together and insulating them to do a bypass. I prefer having the switch functional but it can be bypassed if you want. The wire to the governor can be replaced or spliced too but just make sure you use the correct gauge wire to replace it with.

Just move the governor wire from the post on the lock out switch to the post on the other side of the switch that contains the wire going to the kick down switch and then on to the relay. Leave the switch in place.

Hope this helps,

Tom

What are you attempting to do? Is the kickdown switch not working or do you mean the lockout switch on the transmission?
