Oil change
Hi guys
On my 39 coupe (no filter) I change oil every 1k. What’s suggested interval for 51 F1 with filter?

Re: Oil change
Per the '48 owners manual every 2500 miles.

Re: Oil change
The interesting thing about this is that, while the oil change interval is stated as 2500 miles, the owners manual (at least for my 1951 car) calls out a chassis lube at every 1000 miles. I can't believe a truck (the way they were used) would be any more.

Re: Oil change
It seems to me that with the quality of today's oils, even 3,000 without a filter is not bad.

Re: Oil change
I do not run an oil filter as well and I’ve done 3k plus when on my LA Roadster trip - changed it in Pueblo, CO on my way back. That was probably closer to 4K actually ......

Re: Oil change
Seems that applying oil change intervals as set forth back when the oil was inferior to the oil that is available today should be taken into consideration.

Re: Oil change
Oil lab results will give the best indication of what it should be. Most of us just don't do it.

The analysis showed the oil was in very good condition, no need to change it on any of their criteria. See attached.

Re: Oil change
They knew I'd changed it for the analysis, so what they meant was, "Run the new oil for 5000 miles and have it tested".

Re: Oil change
I run a 95% oil filter setup and still change oil at 1000 miles or less. I grease the steering components at half that. In my opinion oil and grease changes are cheap preventative maintenance.

I tend to do this in the 34 as well although I do it when it is convenient so probably works out about 750 miles. On a long tour I push it out a bit to avoid changing it during the tour . Both have no filters and a lot of my running is short runs round town and to work. Oil and grease is cheap and much cheaper than engine work! Karl

Re: Oil change
On such machines, the more often the change the better. Selected option 1K is just great.

Re: Oil change
One of the benefits of modern oils is the detergents that keep dirt in suspension until removed by the filter. But with no filter I would run non detergent oil and change more often.
