If your talking about the horn/light switch in the steering wheel you have to disconnect the actual switch at the bottom of the steering column (see above post for part drawing) and slide the horn/light switch rod up and out of the steering shaft. I believe that the rear window need to be removed to accomplish this without bending the horn/light switch rod.

Or, take the entire column/box out.

Bob, if you do decide to remove the steering wheel, be very careful not to bend the rod on the horn, light switch, rod assembly.

I took a look at mine this am. The horn rod is about 49" end to end and the dash is only 40" from the rear window glass. The steering column end is even closer to the glass. To pull the horn rod straight out through the rear window you will also have to unbolt the steering column from the dash to get a better angle so the horn rod will clear the window frame.

Thanks all I hope I never have to pull that rod .I remember now I restored the steering wheel when I had the steering box out for overhaul.WELL Verytangled came over today and we did all of the HARD things FIRST. Then HE found a bullet connected loose on the new wire harness on the firewall. I was trying to get the horn to work again. I was looking too deep .THANK You all BOB

Sweet ride. Very peppy, shifts and stops so much better than the mechanical brake junk I work on!

We worked from the power to the horn backwards and found an open on the ground (B
+) path, that lead to the open at a bullet connector.

In true Roadkill fashion, we fixed it with a bit of electricians tape and some pushing and pulling!

This truck is super clean, has all the goodies replaced and refurbished. Sweetness!

Plus a bonus of a great grilled dogs for lunch!

Hi Everyone. We traced a yellow with green tracer from the horn to an extra-large gauge wire that had a bullet larger than all the others. What size bullet do we need to get this back into the reliable category? At least one step wider than std?

Golly a super looking truck. I have a '39 pickup as well.
Do you have the sliding back window? This accessory solves the summer heat problems.

Coming to Sully?
