Correct Carb for my 1940 Ford
Greetings
I am trying to put my 1940 back to Original as possible. Getting close, but a few things left. The carb on the car now is a Ford Model 8BA which is missing the manual Throttle link on the carb. The rest of the linkage is there, but no place to hook it to the carb. Not sure if it has been broken off or I don,t have the correct carb. First question is Do I have the correct period carb All inputs appreciated Thks Dale Francois |

Re: Correct Carb for my 1940 Ford
There were a couple of suppliers of the concourse correct carburetor for your '40. All had 91-99 on the side of the bowl. All had 94 on the back of the carb. The base is kind of triangular. Thus, it pretty much matches the shape of the valve chamber cover where it is fastened.
There is an elongated opening on the top cover, about 1/8" wide and maybe 1/4" tall. When I get home this evening, I'll add some detailed photos for you.

Thanks Kube, The carb does have a 94 on the back, but no place to attach the throttle arm on left side of carb A pic of the correct hook up would be great

Re: Correct Carb for my 1940 Ford
My thinking on this is, if you could provide some pictures of what you have, it would be very beneficial to this thread. Is it a stock 1940 engine setup or something else? You want original from your post so Kube could sort this out as he has written the book on the Factory Ford's. If, from the way it was built Kube is the way to go.

The O/P said the carb on the engine now is an 8BA, so that is obviously wrong (with the extra vacuum port on the back). You are correct, "Kube" is the ultimate authority on this.

Yep you need a 91-99 '94' carb. This carb has the hand throttle arm on the drivers side. I have some, let me know. Charlie ny [email protected] |

Also those carbs had an external float vent only. Crank mounted fan engine. Do you want the factory anodized 'gold' finish? [Concours quality] . So not gold, but a natural finish ?? Newc

Re: Correct Carb for my 1940 Ford
As promised, I'm back with some photos of a concourse correct carburetor. I'd also added a photo of the carb. installed in hopes you may better envision the rods and linkage.
Keep in mind that if there is any "gold" within the finish, it is very slight, nearly indetectable. The carburetors you see on occasion that are GOLD, are very, very incorrect.

Kube
Thks, what is the issue with gold coloring. Not sure what to look or ask for. I am advised as to the correct Model/part no. Do I also need to check for "Gold"coloring on the carb. Thks again Dale |

Re: Correct Carb for my 1940 Ford
The photos I'd attached earlier is what you want if correctness matters. The plating process back then did at times add a very slight gold tint - VERY slight. There were a couple of guys that (used to?) rebuild carburetors that would plate them a very bright and notable gold. Also, VERY incorrect.

I have some NOS carbs remaining in the boxes. Most of them are, for lack of a better descriptive, silverish. A couple have that tint that you describe as "greenish". It is very slight, and my bet is it was much dependent on the strength of the plating bath and / or accuracy of the mixture.
