Uncle Paul's 38

This 38 pickup belonged to my great uncle. He gave it to my dad in the 1960’s.We used it on the farm and I drove it to school from time to time.In the 1970’s, as a newly married college grad with plenty of enthusiasm and limited resources, I started a “restoration.”The failed attempt resulted in the pickup being relegated, literally, to the barn for four decades.Having retired, I’ve taken up the project once again.I may be a bit less nimble, but I still have the enthusiasm and now it seems I have the time and resources to see the project through (along with the help and expertise of some folks that have done those tasks where my limits are apparent).Here’s a few pics.Hope to substantially finish this summer.It will be a driver, not a show truck.My thanks to this website for all the help provided.

Looks good. I have a '39 pickup that was my grandfathers. He never got around to putting it back on the road. I completed the project about 5 years ago. I drive my truck and have a blast with it around town. I can tell you that folks love an old pickup. Enjoy!

Not a fan of barrel nose's until I bought my '39. Now I love it. Drive it almost every day. Everyone seems to want a 40/41 p/u and not so much the 38/39 barrel nose p/u's. Their loss, IMHO.

You're doing a nice job. My first "old" Ford was this 39 I bought back in 1978 for $300. It needed a transmission and a some engine work. After spending $800 that I couldn't afford it became my wood, rock, and manure hauler. Great old trucks!

I have a 39 that I restored the mechanics on , and drive it like it is for now.No body wanted the 38 or39 s ,but now they are coming out of the buses. I had a muffler shop make the upper pipes for me. Great truck enjoy . Sunshine

Thanks to all for your kind and encouraging words. Its great to hear that there are other barrel nosers out there too! (Sunshine: I too struggled with a solution for the upper hoses in order to get rid of the flex hoses. I'll post a separate thread with my approach.)
