Default Speedometer cable

The speedometer cable in my 31 is squeaking up by the speedometer. I'm going to remove it from the car, and I'm looking for your opinions. I would like to know what i need to do to pull the cable out of the housing? Am I able to remove the cable out of the housing easily just by pulling it out with a pair of pliers ? The speedometer works so the cable isn't frozen.

Do I need any special tools? The big question is will the cable go back in the housing without any problems??
Thanks

It's Been A while, As I Remember I Took The Cable Housing Off On Both Ends, Pulled The Cable Out With Pliers From The Speedo End. As Long As Your Cable Is In Good Shape It Probably Just Needs Some Lube. !!!

yup - cleaned and lubed... Throw an old sheet over the seats and wear old clothes and gloves - that graphite goop thats usually used on spedometer cables stains and whips around everywhere.
