Model-B Points....
Recently I have been rebuilding two Model-B 4-cyl. distributors with the help of Renner's Corner. Off of eBay I have acquired a couple of NOS Ford "B"
point sets. Neither of the two points contact arms have a steel spring "strap", correct name unknown. That exerts pressure on the contact arm to rub the cam and momentarily touch the opposite point contact. I'm guessing the B "strap" has a different part number of its own? Original Model-A point sets are similar, but have a built on steel strap. Like 99% of all other car point sets. After looking at the original Model-A points arm I can butcher it. And apply the "A" steel spring strap to the "B" points arm. Any thoughts or experience fellow Barn-memebers on this matter? Bob-A |

Re: Model-B Points....
It's hard enough finding B point then you have to reuse the old spring strap! Guess we have been lucky so far and the distributor we have rebuilt had their points. I will be watching this to see what others have done. Don't know about different parts number, all the old stock ones I have seen do not have them.

The spring is B-12169. I was going to try using an A spring also but I was
afraid it might break where the rivet hole is. Bob |

Re: Model-B Points....
One of the "B" dizzy's that I'm rebuilding has an original set of points on it with the steel (and copper) strap's on it. I'll probably re-use them they
look in pretty good shape. On the other "B" dizzy I'm going to try and use the steel strap from an "A" repop original style point arm on the "B" point arm. Bob C's concern about the steel strap breaking is valid, but I'm going to try anyway. Also, thanks for the part number, Bob. Quickchange I hear the cost of shipping "A" parts to NZ is real high. I imagine shipping "B" parts to the USA would be the same! Thanks for the info guys..... Bob-A |

Re: Model-B Points....
For one you would have to cut off the spark advance tang and correct me on this, you would have to drill holes to lock it down to distributor casting. These holes would have to be drilled to keep the hole in the plate centered with the cam. This means you might also have to index it to get correct aliment relative to points and timing position. That bit might not be so bad as the A and B used the same cam setup. Can it be done, more then likely.

Re: Model-B Points....
Bob its not the cost to NZ its the time delay by sea , Air is expensive on larger items , like 10 kg from NZ too US $250.00 With air fares at around $1250 an allowance of 22 kg per bag , & two bags if you are lucky , nearly a free trip ?? Derek in a very warm NZ needing rain
