No not urine just piss poor gas!
OK I spent the summer working on my 29 tudor. I finally have the rear of the car reassembled (picture 1) and was ready to take a drive. But I found the car was hard to start and easy to stall. The first thing I checked was the fuel system. Yuk! The gas looked (and performed) like urine! (picture 2) I am thinking it is worse leaving crap gas unused in your tank for a few summer months than winter months since there are many more moist humid summer days.
I have the tank drained, and while I am at it I am going to change out the manifolds and carb with one with flow tested jets. (picture 3) From now on I will not leave gas sitting unused in my tank for months - especially during the summer!! |

Re: No not urine just piss poor gas!
Just put a can of Seafoam in the tank if you plan to store the car for a few months and that will solve your problems. Wayne

Re: No not urine just piss poor gas!
The EPA has foisted upon us the worst hoax ever....motor fuel polluted with corn alcohol. All the car and boat forums are awash in complaints over what misery this has caused.
Now EPA wants to fine VW out of business. And just who fined them when they released 100 yrs of toxic heavy metals (cadmium, lead, zinc, etc) from an old mine in CO along the Animas river this summer? They did not even admit what they did for a full day. I was there to see the horrible orange color of the river and all its downstream branches. People get their drinking and washing water from that river...oops...used to. Think they care about your carb?

I do a fair amount of repair of small engines, generators, chainsaws etc... for friends and neighbors. Can't tell you the number of times I've fixed things just by replacing the bad gas.

Re: No not urine just piss poor gas!
I am lucky to have non-ethanol gas available. I do pay more, but it is cheaper than repairs.

Re: No not urine just piss poor gas!
Bill's question is a good one. How do you dispose of old gas? Oil is pretty simple, but I don't know of anyplace that will take old gas. So what do we do? Well I can tell you of a spot on my land that has eaten up it's share of old gas, solvents, etc. Not the best thing to do to our earth, but what is the option?

Keep the old gasoline for cleaning parts.

Bob,
What do you do with the old gas after the parts have been cleaned? Just being the devil's advocate here! |

" Clean" or dirty from parts washing,it is still good for putting on brush fires to get them started, but treat it just like you would real gas, very carefully.
If you live where this is not allowed, I cant help you. Good Luck |

Re: No not urine just piss poor gas!
Search around for non ethanol gas. I buy it from the local Minit Mart (Marathon Gas) is REC 90 octane. It is also available at the bulk plant of a local oil company. I'm using it small engines and all the antique cars. The cars have never run better. Last winter I did have a problem with the Cub Cadet once while plowing snow--I think it was carburetor ice. haven't had that problem in a long time.
The REC gas is 30-50 cents higher and is said to contain less than 0.5% ethanol. I'm really pleased with it. |

Re: No not urine just piss poor gas!
I have an app on my iPhone called Pure Gas. It tells me where all of the gas stations that sell ethanol-free fuel are located according to my GPS location. It's very helpful. I ONLY burn ethanol-free fuel in Alyssa. She deserves the best. :-)

Re: No not urine just piss poor gas!
Our 31 has been sitting for nearly 3 months, waiting for new rear brake drums and hubs. Now I know why I drained the gas out of it. Got one new drum yesterday, still waiting for the other one.
Old gas? Blend it off as Tiny said, but not over 10%, 5% would be better.

The soil was tested at the junk yard where I worked, and that yard was around since before WWII. The soil was fairly sandy and 6" down it was as clean as beach sand.

Re: No not urine just piss poor gas!
I do like others and pour in daily driver, I also use ethanol in it also. I won't use ethanol in any of the small engines (replaced to many unbuildable carbs). I will not use ethanol in the stored cars and have had good luck with a double dose of stabilizer.
