winfield head use...
Anyone using aluminum Winfield 8.5:1 head on their engine? I'm researching buying one and would appreciate any input into pros/cons of using such and what head gasket recommended?

Re: winfield head use...
I have a Winfield "Crowsfoot", 8.5:1 on a modified Diamond "B". Wasn't impressed with power out-put compared to a Police head or a Winfield Super. Felt it was time to make some more modifications. I machined relief radii in combustion chambers to reduce shrouding of the intake valves. CC'd the combustion chambers and had a engine machine shop fly-cut the head to obtain 8.5:1 CR. Still wasn't satisfied with power and RPM's so I designed and machined Offset Valve Guides to move the intake valves .080 towards the pistons. Very impressed with over-all preformance. I will PM you with drawings and pictures.

Not in this B ! Look up 'Crower' produced B rods. There's a reason they are called 'bullet proof' And, they are in a bullet proof Russian B (full pressure/inserts).. And , sounds like with a little 'help from my friends' (huntington beach) we're going to 'wake that puppy up! Last edited by hardtimes; 03-05-2012 at 08:29 PM. Reason: .. |

Re: winfield head use...
I think he meant he had it resurfaced to regain the 8.5 CR after he increased the chamber CC's by unshrouding the valves.

Hello Hartimes,
I modified '39 Pontiac rods for inserts. Have a drawing if you are interested. Jerry |

I'm very interested in your work, both winfield head alterations and rod useage. I sent you a message with my email. Thanks! I've got a friend who is also innovative like you. He is making Aluminum rods for the B engine, very strong...similar to what is used in high rpm race engines. |

SteveB31, the original aluminum Super Winfield head was a good one, just be sure that water hasn't corroded it too much to be run.
