Where should I start looking for a VIN number on my '29 Open Cab Pickup? ? ? Engine has a June '29 number.
Thanks in advance, Jerry

It is on the top of the drivers side frame rail. Under the body and splash apron next to the body mount that is rivited to the frame.

The engine number was originally the VIN number. When the engine was installed the frame was stamped with the engine number on the top rail of the drivers side, about across from the battery area. the only way to see this number is with the body off, and many times there is to much rust/ pits to clearly see the number.

Sometimes the unidentifiable numbers need to be restamped into numbers that you can read, later in "A" production the shape of some # changed, the service bulletins has a picture of the numbers and when they changed.

When a new engine block was installed by a dealer it was expected that the dealer stamp the cars original number on the new engine block.

You can buy reproduction Ford stamps on eBay.
