Bick & Tracy, Have a safe trip, and a great time at the Rally. Wish I could be there again this year; you Kiwis really know how to put on a rally.

Well day one got off to a great start, we headed off on time, beautiful day, when we hit the first hill the car started to miss slighltly I stopped at a rest area and checked the plugs, one was fouled. I replaced it and the car started and ran fine. Further on we came to our first big climb, and we seemed to be way down on power, we carried on for a while but I could tell the car was definately not performing as it should and how it had been the previous day when I went for a run. We stopped at a convenient place and I checked the rear plug again. As I removed the plug lead, the distributer moved! I checked the bolt that holds it in place and it appeared tight so loosened off the lock nut and gave it a bit more, the bolt tightened slightly then stripped the thread in the aluminium head. Bugger! There was nothing I could do to fix it as soon as I put the power on the distributor would move and retard the spark. I ended up having the car trucked back to our home, we had achieved 77 Km. 8 hours later we were back on the road again in our modern, and made the last of the noggin and natter. Looking forward to todays events.

Bummer!

I didn't know this was even on... though I'd still be wary of driving THAT far!

Shame you had to take the modern... bit more comfy though

A beautiful day here in Thames. Sun shining, great to see the cars driving round in a town that was established on the back of the 1860s gold rush. Here are some of the cars

Sorry about the car troubles. It looks like great fun!!! My wife and I want to visit New Zealand. Maybe we should plan it around your next event. I don't think I will bring my car though...my steering wheel is on the "wrong" side. When is the best time of year to visit and when are your events? Thx Steve

Both of the AA cabs have a half window behind the door. Ive seen one in a pic taken at a California show I believe. It was LHD though. Who made those cabs and what are they called?
Thanks for posting all the nice pics!

Both the AA trucks have local New Zealand built cabs, probably built by Standard Motor Bodies an offshoot of the New Zealand Importer.

They will announce the next Model A rally during the course of this rally. It will be in two years time, and they say Wanaka, in the South Island. I will confirm dates when it has been finalised.

Here are some pictures from today, another fabulous day, great sea vistas etc. Some went to the 'Beach hop' 50,000+ people celebrating rock and roll, hot rods, and 50's car culture. Others went to the leadfoot festival, a private race course owned by Steve Millen who made a name for himself racing in the U.S.
