Seven-tooth steering column "O" ring...

For those of you running a 7-tooth steering column, we are kind of worried about oil leaking from the steering sector, especially those sectors that do not have a grease zerk in that spot to fill the cavity with grease as later 7-tooth columns do.

That being the case, how many of you have added either the "Steering Sector O-Ring and flat washer" OR the "Steering Sector to Frame Seal-7 Tooth" where you have to bore the end of the sector to make it fit, and have had success with the adaptation in preventing oil leakage from the sector.

Do they work or not?

My kit came with the O-ring and washer, but I didn't remove any material from the bushing or the frame. Just put it on and hoped for the best. No leakage so far.

Whether it is 7 tooth or 2, I bore a recess in the housing and fit a modern seal. I use Penrite Steering Box Lube. I can't say it doesn't weep a little but I hardly ever need to attend to it.

Guten Morgen Steve.

I bought this modern simmering. But in order to use it, the housing has to be milled. This is not easy because there is no good right angle clamping.

Therfore I pressed the outer bronze bush 1/10 inch deeper and fitted a tight O-ring with silicone seal and the large hole plate mountet against the frame.

The vendors used to sell them but I just checked Snyders and couldn't find it. Any decent bearing supply place should have them. All you need is the diameter of the shaft and keep the OD and width to a minimum.
