Default 1942 jailbar filter mount

Hi all,

Working on the old 42 again, ( will post some pics soon), can anyone tell me how the oil bath filter secured to the carb? Is there a rubber section that goes between the two?

A picture would be great if anyone has one to show how it is secured, any help is appreciated.

Cheers

Corey

Just a clamp around the top of the carburetor with a long screw that reached all the way out to the edge of the air cleaner for easy access. Same as on the 39 sedan as I recall.

Ralph is correct in his response.
Originally, there was a thin, dense wool gasket in the filter housing that would "seal" against the top of the carburetor throat. These are nearly always absent.

Thanks Guys,

I will have a closer look tomorrow and se if there is a clamp around somewhere, i thought my filter had a solid ring where it was supposed to go the carb hence i thought there must of been an adapter/rubber section.

I will have a closer look tomorrow as ive not been working on it this week.

Cheers

Top of my carb has about 5 turns of electrical tape to help the clamp out. Doesn't rattle anymore. Might look into felt though.

Do the earlier truck carburetors have a different air filter mounting clamp than the cars like the 8BA/8RT series carbs do? If so, that could be your problem.

That is a good point, i will need to check that out. I have actually put an 8BA in the truck, and never thought about if the old engine had the same carb/mounting.

I will to do a bit of reading to see firstly I'd they ran the same carb.

Good point, thanks

Hi All,

I am having trouble finding a clamp for the filter to carb still, would anyone have one they are willing to sell and post?

Also chasing an instrument cluster to suit the 42 as well if anyone has one in good condition

Appreciate any assistance

Cheers

Corey
