Bob Drake has several lengths available and I would guess the longest would be right for 28/29, but not sure. Would it be possible to stain or dye the brown check straps the more blackish color for 28/29 cars? Any suggestions?
I can't tell from the pics whether they are closer to the deluxe "tan" or the standard chocolate brown. Maybe my pic is a little misleading. The original straps used on all the standard models were "chocolate brown" which in reality is somewhere between the colors of light and dark chocolate, slightly closer to dark.

Camera flash alters the true color of these 28/29, 7.5" chocolate brown check straps for open car without sidemount.

I can try to take a natural light photo later if it would be of help.

Thanks Marco. I think there must be pages missing in the new JS I got.
The new index shows check straps on 12-5 and I have door handles on
12-5 and no new revisions in section 12.

Has anybody purchased the check straps from Drake?

If you have, how close are they to the originals?

Thanks, Dudley

HoarseWhisperer and others that responded,
Thanks for posting the picture of the 28/29 straps. Nice picture. Also thanks for supplying the length for 28/29 without sidemounts. I forgot to check the JS. Until I saw Bob Drake's straps in his catalog, I didn't know the straps were doubled over at the ends. I should have figured it out being there are two sets of mounting holes at each end, but I guess I am a little slow. I think I will order a set from Bob Drake to see what they look like.

I bought a set of straps for my 40B. They are really quite nice and when compared to a NOS set of originals I have they are fairly close. Even the color is close. Much better than leather or the typical repros that you normally see.

I ordered some check straps from Bob Drake. I received them yesterday. They look pretty authentic to me, but I have nothing to compare them to except the pictures posted earlier in this string. I took a couple of picture of them and I am posting them in this response. The picture color is not the best, as I have medium priced camera that is not the best for closeup pictures. The straps are what I would call chocolate brown, very close to the original strap color. The straps have the grain, the few wavy lines and a fabric core like originals. The thickness is about .100", but that is not real accurate as I don't have my mic handy. Over all I think they are a good substitute or originals at $30 a pop.

They seem a tad too dark, but light, camera, etc.. I think the rest is pretty spot on....

The straps do look a little darker in the picture than they actually are. They are more of a medium brown.

Hi,

Does anyone know what strap length is correct for a 30 standard roadster?

The Judging Guideline states 8 11/16" for a 30 standard roadster - page 12-5.
Hope this helps.
