Question Headlight Bar

Just wanted to get your guys opinion. When I bought my 1928 Leatherback, it came with a new chrome headlight bar installed. I know they are supposed to be black. What would you guys do? Leave it chrome or paint it black?

Thanks!

I voted paint it black, but I agree with John S. Someone should want a chrome one.

I voted paint it black because that was the best of the two choices . I would replace it with an original . I try to keep them real model A as much as possible.

Sell it and buy an original to repaint. Trying to paint over chrome distroyes the resale value. You should be able to sell it for double the price of a stock original. Bob

I agree with others, sell the chrome one and buy an original. After blasting and painting there should be enough left for a beer. Kick back, drink the beer and pat yourself on the back for doing the right thing. Rod

Mine had an incorrect light bar on it when I bought it, although it wasn't chrome. I found a correct one, had it powder coated black and put it on my PU. As to the light bar left over, a chrome one would be much more desirable to someone else than the perfectly good stock '28-29 I have. (Which I'd be happy to send you for the ride).

Given the options on the pole, none would apply to my thoughts.

Well, I have a good '28/'29 headlight bar and matter of fact have several and '30'/31 also. Like said by others, you can trade it, and I'll put it up in the rafters with the other 'chrome' ones that are there !
Otherwise, just paint it , I say.

Thumbs up Re: Headlight Bar

Leave the chrome one on. Buy a black one when you find a good one. I bought a chrome one off of greedBay a few years back for my '29 "Sport"
roadster. Just haven't put it on yet. Many years ago I saw a couple of
pics {'30s era ones too} of a '30 Model-A Vicky that had chrome wire wheels including the sidemount. And chrome headlight bar and horn. It looked killer, like a classic 1930 Lincoln. Dare to be different!

If it was me if I like it I would use it. If I did not like it I would find a black one. It is your car you get to say what to use.
