1949 1/2 ton, has a tag that says W 4/11 so I would assume a 4:11 gear ratio except the Ford book says 4:27 and 3:92 are correct for this year. ???

Doubt if it's a 4:11 ratio. Here's an interesting thread about those Ford pick up rear end gears and ratios. Maybe the tag is a "misprint". 41/11 would be a 3:73 ratio.

Allan my 48 1/2ton has 3.73 gears it is a Dana 41
I purchased all original bearings of Eba cheap & shim kits from a place in South Carolina that specializes in Dana 41 gears for jeeps

thanks guys, going to do some further checking, put it up on stands and plan to do the old style rotation count. will look more closely at the tag also

after straightening the tag it does say 41/11, which makes it a 3:73, so I will try it out for awhile before thinking about changing. thanks for the help
