Is my condenser sick?

When I converted the 41 to 12 V, I went to an external coil. The kit included a condenser.

Car runs fine, but I had ignition noise through the 12v radio, so I installed a noise filter and it stopped. 8 months later it's come back, so I'm guessing the filter has died young.

Before I start to monkey with it, it occurred to me it might be the condenser. I don't hear great things about the ones that come in the kits. What say you?

Note I'm down under so I can't just pop into a NAPA, and were in lockdown so I can only buy online.

Rag, I have 4 flatty powered cars on the road at the moment. They all have points but not one has a condenser.
i don't know if you might like to try one, but if you can solder you can make up a kit built electronic ignition assister.I bought mine from Velleman, but they seem to be marketed under the Whadda brand lately.
There might be a Aus distributor for them.
Search for Velleman K2543 Electronic ignition amplifier kit.
or Whadda wsaa2543 Electronic transistor ignition for cars.

They work on 12V neg earth but can be wired for 6V but still needs to be neg earth.

I switched from spiral wound ignition wires to copper core, due to unreliable connections both at the plug end and crab distributor end. The ignition noise completely jammed my radio. I replaced just the 1 foot wire from coil to distributor with a piece of spiral wound, and solved the noise problem. And I have only two connector points to deal with, instead of 18. Been running great since then.

Hmm, sounds like my Happy Lucky Rooster (TM) brand ignition filter has gone belly up.

If your condenser was sick or faulty then the engine would not run or would run very badly so therefore your condenser is ok. I presume the noise filter you have fitted is in the power supply cable to the radio. So remove it. The noise in the radio is most likely from the high tension cables so check that all those spark plug and coil leads have good end connections. Otherwise fit a new modern spiral wound HT cable between the coil and adapter plate. Another trick is to tie a knot in the HT coil cable if it is long enough. I dont like electronics in early V8 Fords. Nothing wrong with the original 6 volt Ford V8 electrics. Regards, Kevin.
