Possible Jump Start Damage Question

I received a Schumacher Model XPF750C Jump Starter/12V Power Source for my birthday. I have a Model A that is 6V Positive Ground.

Question: Can I Jump Start my 6V Positive Ground Model A with the 12V Jump Starter without causing any damage to the 6V battery or car?

I appreciate your advice and info.

Hard to say...is the Power Source just a battery or an electronic device ?

In a pinch, a lot of people jump start their A's from a 12v car. Have not heard that it hurts, but you never know. I guess if all the lights are off, there is not much to hurt. The starter should take it unless you stay on it for a long time.

It shouldn't hurt. If it hurts anything its the points. Just don't keep it hooked any longer than absolutely necessary.

Its easier to just push start it in third gear

Might not do your Alternator any good, if you are so equipped. Don't know about the regulators built into the cut out box, do they fry with 12V? I have 6V, positive Alternators on my two drivers so if one stalls out I either push start or if there is a bit left I hand crank. That is quite simple to do and my cars usually start with about 1/4 turn, if they are going to start at all. If not then I resort to my charger and time, lots of time,

Don't leave it on long. It will not be good for the battery in the charger OR the car battery. Make sure to remember positive gnd car gets red on the chassis. For short jumps it'll be fine.

I have jumped mine a couple times with my modern car without any issues. Disconnected right after it started. It's an odd feeling to connect the Model A side with the positive to ground while the 12-volt side goes with the traditional connection. You wouldn't want to have bumpers touching each other while so connected (Except that my 2005 Honda has all plastic bumpers)

Bad idea if car has 6 volt electronic ignition and you use 12 volt to jump start it.

Same MIGHT apply IF 6 volt turn signals ...

My car came with the original "jump starter" under the seat. It's Z shaped and goes in the front of the crank.

My first model A was a yellow coupe with a worn out battery. I crank started it every time because I could not afford a new $15 battery.

I know a fellow that used a 12volt on a 6volt and caused a spark and the top blew off the 6volt throwing acid all over. Luckily he didn't get it in the face.

If you want to jump it with 12volts have someone engage the starter and just touch the terminal on the starter with the 12 volts. Works fine and will not hurt it with a momentary connection. Gary

That can happen jump starting any vehicle. One of the many dangers of working on automobile!

That's why the last connection should be to the chassis, away from the battery.
