Default Re: '35 Large Top Tank Radiator

'On my 35 the overflow is under the cap (not pressurized) and when ever I go around a right turn, you can see a trail of water that runs out the overflow. If I go on about 25-30 mile ride I have to add about 1/2 gal of fluid and the car does not overheat, and the plugs are not wet or sooty, where does it go I have a large tank on mine. I notice under the cap there is a deflector that the water can only come in or go out in one direction, looks like a 3/4 bowl'

Yes, that system was subsequently dropped by Ford and they put the overflow at uppermost area of top tank. Problem with having the overflow situated under the filler is that it effectively lowers the water level; I actually have a service bulletin detailing how to modify the top tank and overflow on those specific radiators.
The reason I asked to original poster what style overflow he had, in an attempt to figure out a solution to his weird problem, is that having the overflow under the filler as above, causes the top tank to hold more air, by virtue of the lower water level.

Interesting.
An idea I have is based on the high volume water pumps I now am running with thermostats against the inlet to the radiator.Possibly the opening and closing of the thermostats make the top of the rad. oil can,and higher suction rate of the pumps thru the radiator tubes. Maybe when the thermo's open a little longer is when the top tank really sucks in?
When I had the old style pumps on I never ran the car without the grill and hood off.So I don't know what kind of flex/oil canning was going on then.
I was hoping another member has run into this. Its an interesting problem.
