Default 38 motor

There has been much discussion re the characteristics of the flat heads of different years .We know that the 38 24 stud motors had the J front that would hold a pencil, that they had frost plugs in the pan rails .Canadian motors from 46 were marked C59a or b. a tapered front [the pencil would not fit] Note the enclosed pictures it has the early characteristics but also the 59 designation It is a Canadian motor was likely made during the war. .they were used in trucks and bren gun carries .The valve area is releaved It has 3 1/16 bore note the 3 ports of the bell housing .the third port was used for either a full flow oil filter or more likely for a oil cooler. It has been rebuilt and is going into a 38 club Convertible .The judges at a V8 meet would be some what confused .

All you need is documentation to deconfuse the judges. G.M.

That would be the equivalent to the Ford US manufacture 41A block. Both have the end of war casting marks but have the 3 1/16" bore and characteristics of the prewar 221 blocks. Ford made replacement blocks for some time for there older vehicles. It is interesting to know that the same was done in Canada.

Hi all; That C59 block would be perfect for my CMP truck, I noticed a C7 head, which is post war I believe. I have been hunting for those C59 blocks... hard to find in the states. Newc
