Count the flatheads in this movie clip from 1953
Don't you wish that you could go back in time and buy these mint autos.
MIKE (mikeburch) Fun .. these old cars and the clothing ... obviously no seatbelts with the kids hanging out the car windows ... Beany's Drive Thru - Long Beach , California - 1952-53 This is a unique piece of film. Check out those cars !! https://vimeo.com/110260174 |

Mike, never mind the cars... I'd settle for a .20 cent hamburger... LOL

I didn't think my Bronze '501 Ford was ever out west back then, but I saw it in that clip.

Some whitewalls, but not a lot. Cadillacs and higher end cars.

Re: Count the flatheads in this movie clip from 1953
People had pride in how they looked back then. Also, how did they make ANY profit? Look at the prices on the drive up menu. You could feed the family for less than $2.
Todays drive through for 2 cheeseburgers and 2 drinks will run you about $15. Where's the "way back machine", I'm in. |

Man does that bring back memories. We didn't even know what we had - wouldn't have believed what was coming if someone had told us. Great film.

Re: Count the flatheads in this movie clip from 1953
To bring up something really obscure, there was a TV puppet show in the early 50's called "Time for Beanie". The fiberglass statue on the sign looks a lot like the "Beany" character from that TV show. Anyone else remember the show (with "Cecil the Seasick Sea-Serpant", "Uncle Captain", and "Dishonest John"?) I wonder if there was any business tie-in between the show and the restaurant?

Re: Count the flatheads in this movie clip from 1953
Well, that was before my time. I got out of high school in 1956 and went right into the GE apprentice course @ $1.37/hr. I was rich! Had a 39 Plymouth coupe and worked part time at a garage that had wreckers. We would drain the gas tanks for our cars from the wrecks so never had to buy gas. We had a long gutter on a slope so when we did oil changes we put the cans on it to drain. So we had free oil also and needed a lot of it. I guess you would call that multiple viscosity oil. But those were fun days and we had several drive in diners and movies. Oh did I have fun with my girlfriend (now my wife of 55 years). She would snuggle up to me in the 39. Oh, those floor shifts into 3rd gear were great.
