Default 1955 Ford Ranch Wagon, Muffler question?

I need to replace the mufflers ( Dual) and also the tailpipes. My question is: What kind of muffler would be a good mellow sound muffler to put on this wagon? The ones I have right now are the smittys from the 60's. I have heard that the magnaflow and the Flowmaster are 2 that put out a nice sound but I am not familiar with eighter one of them. What kind of mufflers are you guys using on your classic cars? Thanks for your suggestions.

Good question ....I am in the same situation with my 55 wagon build. I have a bone stock 272 2 bbl with dual exhaust manifolds. About ready to look for mufflers for it as well. My question would be the same , Magnaflow and/or Flowmaster , but what model of these would give the y-block sound without being too loud?

With a relatively stock low compression engine, I would recommend any brand bullet shaped muffler. My stock 272 55 had 22 inch long bullets, it was very quiet. Go shorter for more sound.

I have used "Corviar Turbo" style mufflers on many different vehicles. They come in many different sizes and shapes, inlet/outlet locations etc. The sound is really good under acceleration and nice and mellow at cruise. No drone with a cross over pipe. Summit has a large selection with respect to size/inlet/outlet and pipe diameter.

I do not have a device that can record and post sound here or I would post my 65 Bird (390/SCJ cam) and the Ranchero (351C/Boss 531 cam).

One thing I did was go to youtube and search mufflers when looking for a system for my 2016 F150. Great examples of looks and sound.

In the past year, I've had Brockmans, Smithy's and the were all too loud. I have a 292, and I will install Walker quiet flow as soon as the weather gets a little warmer.
