Default Standard or Deluxe Model?

Any way to tell whether restored 35 & 36 Fords were/are standard or deluxe?

1. Have 35 Model 48 five window coupe, rumble seat. ID plate 181633554.

2. 36 Fordor Body #68-730, ID plate missing.

Thank you.

Off the batt, STANDARDS had a painted windshield frame whereas the Deluxe cars had a chromed frame. STANDARD speedometer resettable TRIP meters had THREE digits, whereas the Deluxe trip meters had FOUR digits. Deluxe window trim had this additional scalloped piece mounted below the garnish molding, as in the pic below. STANDARDS did not have this. STANDARDS had a BLACK, molded steering wheel whereas the DeLuxes usually had a BANJO wheel. DD

You should invest in a copy of the book that covers your cars from the Early Ford V8 Club: https://shop.efv8.org/collections/fo...book-softbound

Not just for these questions but for a lot more you haven't thought of yet.

The same goes for '36 grilles. Great Ford archives photo; a classic example of a picture equaling a thousand words. Thanks for sharing it.

YES, are my eyes (and angle of the shot) deceiving me OR are those "Standard" grills hanging in the back ground AND "IF" the are "standard" grills they appear to be "painted" surrounds with "black" centers......I thought (and have seen) the standard grills painted "body"color, surround and all??? AS the all black one second on the line.

I don’t think 35s had a banjo wheel option. Boy I wish I had one of those grilles hanging there. Sure look a lot nicer than mine.

I believe you're correct and I should have noted such. DD

Look at the grill on the car just behind the DeLuxe. BLACK cars would have had a black surround. DD

Robert,
It is a bit of throwback to the '32 model year when as a running change the grille portions of the radiator shells of commercial vehicles (other than the deluxe models and the sedan delivery, which had passenger car grilles and radiator shells) and big trucks were painted black when the cab/hood color was either Golden Orange or Vermilion Red. The effect is quite an improvement of the monochromatic body color treatment of the radiator shell/grille with the remainder of the standard commercial color offerings of that year.

Didn't the standard only have one horn and the deluxe with two?

Just for reference - When I purchased my 35 Three Window Deluxe it was all original - tired but original - the interior garnish was not chrome - but painted. See pics.

Top left of the Forms page in a narrow "Blue Box" that says "Start a new thread".

I will add that you will only see that "Blue Box" when you are on the main page; it does not appear when you are viewing a thread. (It's in the same location that "POST REPLY" is on this page.)

BTW - Welcome to the Barn.

Actually, 35 Deluxe models did not have the extra scalloped trim pieces as in photo #2, only 36 Deluxes.
See post #14.
At least this is true of Canadian produced export models.

Agreed - as evidenced in my unrestored original interior pictures of my 35 Coupe. This is an original US built Coupe.
