Default Oil pan hole, what is it?

Can someone tell me what the hole in the front of the pan is?
Our local history museum has a 1917 Model T that I am trying to get running and I seen this hole...what the hell is it? What hooks up to it (steering rod?)
It's at the front of the pan left side on the picture, can't miss it.
I'm volunteering my time and labor (working alone), I'm a model A man myself and know nothing about T's.

The hole allows access to the pin that holds the pulley onto the crankshaft. Without the hole, it would be really hard to remove and replace the pin.

Also, if your front seal leaks, this hole allows the oil to get onto your garage floor.

So I don't have to worry about it?

Thanks guys, this is a fun learning experience.
I'll be back on here many times as we work on this at the museum, today the wheels comes off for new ones, donated by Fred's tires in Shawnee, OK
I should seek out a Model T guy near Shawnee, I'll start a new thread.
