Re: 1929 Sport Coupe Vagabond Green A1217992
Here's a pic of the lock. Under the upholstery panel, there is a place for it to bolt on - toward the rear of the door and just below the window. There should be an opening with an escutcheon in the panel for the knob to protrude. Repros of all parts are available from most Model A parts houses.
The inside lock and the non-keyed outside handle should be on the driver side – the keyed handle goes on the passenger side. If you want to change the outside handles, there’s a trick to it. Remove the escutcheon screws, then turn the handle about ¼ turn and pull it out – may have to jiggle it around a bit.. The shaft is grooved so you have to turn it to line it up with hole inside the door.
There is a place on the passenger door that looks the same as the one for the inside lock on the driver door – I’ve never tried a lock there to see if it works. Whatever you do, do NOT put inside locks on both doors. It is possible to engage the inside lock and close the door, but then you can’t turn the outside handle – if both doors were locked this way, you couldn’t get the doors open!
