Re: Mercury or Ford Engine Block ?
Did 49 to 53 truck engines have a 4" stroke? I have one in the barn that was pulled out of a dump truck about 20 years ago.

Re: Mercury or Ford Engine Block ?
Looks like the short block was replaced on a truck, and they kept the bolt-on pieces. Looks like an 11" clutch? Truck pan? Pretty common to see a mish-mash of parts. Trucks were 3.75" stroke.

Re: Mercury or Ford Engine Block ?
8CM indicates 1949 Mercury heads. Water pumps are 1951 mercury narrow belt.
8RT indicates pickup truck intake manifold to replace the 4 bolt Mercury carburetor. Oil pan looks like '49-'51 Mercury rear sump. 4 inch crank is a Merc crank. I don't think Ford trucks came with a 4 in. crank. Not sure if Mercury pickup trucks had a 4 in. crank. If bell housing is made of stamped steel it's most likely a 1949-51 Mercury. If it's made of aluminum it's a truck bellhousing for the 11 inch truck clutch. If the clutch disc dia. is 11 in. it's a truck clutch. Your clutch looks like a 1949 Mercury clutch. When your tear down the engine part number will appear on the cam. I am surmising that what you have is a 1949 mercury block with other parts bolted on. THANK YOU. I stand ( or sit) corrected. I think you are correct about it being cast iron. Here's several 11 inch cast iron bellhousings for sale. http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_sop=...ad+bellhousing Last edited by 19Fordy; 01-16-2015 at 12:05 PM. |

Re: Mercury or Ford Engine Block ?
'49 Mercury heads did not have the oil filter bosses cast into the head, they used the head bolts also narrow pulley water pumps were used in 1950.

Re: Mercury or Ford Engine Block ?
Every thing except the intake says it's a '50 early '51 Mercury engine.
