Mallory Distributor Springs
I know this is a long shot but, does anybody have or know where to get springs for my Mallory dual point? I converted a #2748201 to fit my 8BA Flathead and need to dial in the advance curve.
The 29014 Advance Kit now seems to be unobtainium. SOMEBODY must have some on a shelf SOMEWHERE. I hope. I've got the factory purple and brown springs. I need some lighter springs to bring the advance in faster. Grey, pink or orange? I think the grey are the lightest. I've got a pile of advance springs but, they're all heavier and shorter. Any alternatives out there? |

Re: Mallory Distributor Springs
I just ordered a Summit Racing kit that looks like the original Mallory and MOPAR kit. Supposed to work for my 27 Series Mallory.
I'll post up if it is. I see TONS of posts on various forums looking for this kit. |

Re: Mallory Distributor Springs
I have a lot of springs , but first you need to study your project.
The mallorys are adjustable by bending the tap the spring mounts on. You can even do it without taking it apart ( on the engine thru a hole)... The heavy spring is high speed and the lighter is low speed , glad to help with any springs you might need, however you dont need any... |

Re: Mallory Distributor Springs
Thanks for the reply Jim! All I hear is the Chevy advance curve is too much and way too slow to come in?
The too far is easy to limit but, I thought I would need a lighter spring to make the advance start earlier? The Mallory specs show the advance starting about 1200 RPM on the light spring (brown) advancing 15 degrees, then the heavy (purple) spring advancing from there to 30 degrees max at 3000 RPM. The instructions also show single stage and two stage advance curves using their different spring combinations. This is why I thought I would need lighter springs. So bending the tab will allow advance to start sooner if I understand correctly? The Mallory instructions mention bending the tab for the heavy spring. If you are saying bend the tab for the light spring I will try it. This has the YH advance setup that uses the keys to set the advance limit. I think I saved the measurements of the keys that someone posted. Otherwise it's going to be trial and error. You are the man as far as setting up Flathead distributors so I definitely trust your advice. |

Yep both are bendable either loosen or tighten the tension based on need.... |
