Master cylinder bleeding
I re-plumbed all my brake feeds on my stock '46 coupe and also replaced all wheel cylinders and master cylinder. Do I have to bench bleed my master cylinder? I've never done that before and would like to know the procedure. A video would be very helpful. All the videos I could find where later model cars with dual reservoirs.
Thanks, Mike [email protected] |

Re: Master cylinder bleeding
A single chamber master usually does not require a bench bleeding.

Re: Master cylinder bleeding
I would recommend bench bleeding the MC. Check out this video at about the 11 minute mark: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=tOCkFYhTskQ

Re: Master cylinder bleeding
By bleeding the brakes cylinders, you also bleed any air from the Master Cylinder. Attach a clear tube from the nipple on the bleed valve down to the catch jar. Crack open the bleeder valve (maybe half a turn); have your helper push the pedal to about 2" from the floor; stop there, tighten the bleeder, then let the pedal back up to the top. Repeat until you see no bubbles coming out through the bleeder tube. The first wheel will take many pumps. Start with the furthest wheel, the right rear, then the left rear, then the right front, then the left front. If you ever let the fluid in the master cylinder get to the bottom in that process, you pretty much have to start over. That should give you a hard pedal. If you still have a spongy pedal, you missed a bubble somewhere.

Re: Master cylinder bleeding
Pre bleeding will speed up the brake bleeding process.
