Cylinders 080 could mean bores 80 over standard.
Mains B.B. Don't have any ideas. Throws 020 the crank could be .020 under standard

Re: GERTRUD >>recondit. engine identification label<<
Wie Gehts! I would guess that it is a British A engine ( less HP, Pferd Stark) and it was rebuilt at some time in the past. Most American rebuilders don't tag their engines. It's probably NOT the US, 40 HP version. As Mike said bored Cylinders, .080 (2mm) Mains, B.B. ??? The .020 (.5 MM)
off the "throws", I would say, shows some of the differences between British and American ways of speaking. We would say "Rods" instead of "Throws". Hope this Helps! Terry |

Maybe B.B. stands for Babbitt Bearing?

Re: GERTRUD >>recondit. engine identification label<<
on a related note. A Tudor came to my shop two weeks ago with the owners request "get my car running again. This 1930 Tudor has been his barn since 1978. It was driven by him as a teenager, parked in his dads barn and been there ever since.
I pulled the engine and began rebuild. This is the tag I found on the side of the block and when engine opened up the specs were as the tag spelled out. .080 oversize pistons. .030 undersize Rods (throws). .030 undersize main bearings. work done May 5, 1949 Interesting. ken |

Vermins engine sports a brass label from a local rebuilder, in 1987. They're STILL in business!
