1932 steering box rebuild
Working through reassembling it and using the thread Dennis Lacy has posted on the HAMB. I live on an island so tough to get repro parts here and in need of the thrust washer, Ford p/n A3579A Does any one have a generic p/n for this part. Info I have found for dimensions are 1.14 ID, 1.62 OD and .12 thick. I suspect it is probably generic for other applications, like bearings, races, etc. All help appreciated and many thanks to Dennis for the tutorial and your wealth of info.

Re: 1932 steering box rebuild
Interestingly, this same p/n was used for the Model A steering box and as luck would have it, in the boxes of parts I got with my 29 roadster pickup, there was a steering box. I took it apart and there was a perfect thrust washer with no wear in it. Looks like the box had been rebuilt. So the hunt is over but the info could be of use to someone else.

Re: 1932 steering box rebuild
Appears part number A-3579-AR was used 28-30 at some point about 29 to 30 it was changed to A-3579-B, this was done most likely with a design change to the part.
The part number -B was changed to B-3579 just prior to 32. B-3579 is used from 29-34, it is possible the B-3579 and the A-3579-B part numbers changed without a change to the part. |
