Default Zenith carb

Does anybody know who made a cast aluminium copy of the zenith? This looks like a zenith, and not a square fuel bowl tilitson.

Tillotson F1B, Simmons, and Wizard all made alloy versions. The F1B is the most common.

That is either a Simmons or Wizard, they were both made by Simmons.

The Simmons will have a brass tag riveted (drive rivets) on the right upper housing. I have seen some alloy Simmons carbs with no tag or rivet holes. The Alloy Simmons was made for better MPG and had a much smaller main jet and a smaller different design venturi. All of the Simmons carbs have a high speed passage that cuts in at about 2/3 wide open throttle. I would be hesitant to say that is uses all the same parts and gaskets as a Zenith. I have never owned one, everything that I have relayed to you I learned from Purdy.

I just checked out the eBay link. I see that they claim that all Zenith small parts will fit. Craig is correct a few Zenith parts such as the float, GAV needle assembly and driver will fit but that is about all. It is a totally different animal. I've never seen one without the lower leg on the choke lever. This may be an early Zenith choke lever. If so, the early Zenith choke lever without the lower leg is sort of rare and would be valuable in itself. If you are interested in more miles per gallon this could be a good choice if it is in good shape. Richard Lorenze did a flow test on several carbs that were used on model A's and the Alloy Simmons flowed the least cubic feet of air per minute of any of the carbs that he tested. This is in the F.A.S.T. news letter, the third for 2004 starting on page 29 . The Simmons cast iron version wasn't tested. The Simmons cast iron was a performance version and one of my favorites.

I looked closer, and it looks as if the lower half of the lever has been broken off.
