Default best way to seal a stud from water jacket

Hi All,

Update time. I lapped and gapped my new valves and am soaking the block in evaporust now. I checked all of the stud holes just on a whim and found that the one between the #2 valves went all of the way through to the water jacket. What is the best way of sealing it off from water? I could use JB weld but then the stud will be glued in permanently. I was just planning to use a lot of anti-seize and match its height and threads to the rest of the studs around it.

I use permatex anaerobic sealer on all the head studs. It sets up in the absence of air and does not lock in a stud. It comes in a white tube and does not say anaerobic on the label. With my broken ankle, I cannot get to the shop to tell you the part number, but all the parts stores have it.

Also works great on Oil Pan Gaskets if skim coated. I think I got mine from an auto parts store, but they did not have it in stock, but got it for me next day. Maybe Amazon has it if you can wait?

Remember, the Model A's cooling system is not pressurized so all you want to do is have the threads coated with sealer material that will not breakdown at around 300 degrees. The anaerobic sealer and RTV red or blue silicones will probably work. Teflon is not a good material for hot environments, it will flow very easily and breakdown.

A little dab of silicone or permatex as Dodge suggests.

I just picked up some Right Stuff by Permatex, I also have aviation form a gasket from them as well. I would prefer not to glue the stud in the hole so if the form a gasket will work then I will use that.

Ok the block is soaking in Evaporust and I know I have to clean it out after I drain it. What I was thinking of doing is installing the head, torqueing and then using the hose to back flush the head and block. This should clean out any residual evaporust in the block. Sound good?
