Speed-o-meter cable lubing
Can the speed-o-meter cable be lubed just by removing it from the drive shaft & pulling it out or does it have to be removed from the dash panel position for lubing? Thanks.

Re: Speed-o-meter cable lubing
it slides out the dashboard end, be very careful you dont get it on you or your interior - graphite and grease is VERY hard to get out of cloth....

Re: Speed-o-meter cable lubing
You could lube it by greasing the u-joint housing, when you see grease filling up the speedometer you put too much in! LOL

Re: Speed-o-meter cable lubing
When pulling the speedo cable from the upper end to lube it, feed it into a large zip lock bag then close the zip lock to about 1" to prevent the spread of grease on everything.

Re: Speed-o-meter cable lubing
Very timely post as I'm going to be lubing the speedometer cable on a friends Phaeton tomorrow. I like the ziploc baggie idea.

Re: Speed-o-meter cable lubing
If you want to know if your cable is KINKYDOED, hold it in a 180 & twirl it with your forefingers & thumbs. It should rotate SMOOTHLY. If it goes "thump-thump" replace it, for a "happy" speedo.
