Question re 32 Hood Latch mounting
I can't believe I even have to ask this question, but I truly don't know. Getting ready to bolt on my hood latches for my 32 RPU. My question is, which way do the bases go? Is the rounded side with the raised lip toward the hood or toward the fender?

Re: Question re 32 Hood Latch mounting
Rounded side towards the hood .Also the base has an angle or slope where the pin goes in.I have always placed them with the angle down facing the fender.

Re: Question re 32 Hood Latch mounting
If you don't install them as deuce lover has recommended they might not clear the hood side panels, depending on how worn they are.

Re: Question re 32 Hood Latch mounting
OK. That's what I thought. Thanks, guys.
From what you said before, David, it sounded like the T-handle shouldn't lay back against the fender. The only way that would happen with mine is to install backward so the slot in the base wouldn't allow it to lean back that far. But I guess the problem is that the springs are old and the handles kind of flop around in the bases. No worries, though. I like that they are original, and I can live with them.

Re: Question re 32 Hood Latch mounting
Sheldon so you are saying that the highest part of the base goes away from the hood and that would not let the hold down touch the fender if that is the case all my cars are wrong. I know that the base with the highest part to the hood sometimes will scratch the paint. You need to come here and fix my cars. Good to hear from you. Leo sold your green sedan but I do not know where it went.

Re: Question re 32 Hood Latch mounting
Put it another way, the slot in the base is closest to the fender, not the hood and yes, they do rest against the fender depending on the degree of wear on the underside of the slot in the base and on their spring tension. Most NOS versions have sufficient spring tension to keep them off the fenders unless you have the early single handle version.
You will note on used handles that the wear on the underside of the base occurs at the highest point of the base. That alone tells which direction they faced over the years. |
