model a frame dimensions & identification

Can anyone tell the total length of a model a frame, Measured from the end of the frame rail to the end of the horns. Also how can you tell the difference between a 28/29 and a 30/31. Any help appreciated.

My puter's in terrible shape, I can't post anything or print out anything. However, I have a 103 1/2" wheel base. To which you add 10 I/2 for the horn and 1 5/8" (possibly 1 3/4" The picture isn't clear) for a total of 115 5/8 ". Warning, I have found this Dwg to be off on hole locations.

The difference between the '28-'29 and '30-'31 is brackets for certain bodies (slant window in '31 comes to mind) and the height for the radiator mounting pads is about 1/4 inch different. The early frames had a solid motor mount as part of the front cross member. Over the years some brackets went from stampings to forgings. The brake system changed . What are you trying to do, a driver or a show car (there is a big difference or a show car but you can work around most of the differences on a driver)?

If generalities are all you are after, that print is fine but if you start looking closely you will see errors/

Does your frame have a serial number (top of left rail just behind steering, would have been covered if body was on frame)?

Here's another frame dimensional diagram that I saved from somewhere - I've hardly looked at it, so can't comment on the accuracy of the shown dimensions.

Is there anyone that has a drawing like the one that Randy in Ca submitted for a 1930/31 frame. I assume these two frame dimensions are the same although very different than 28/29.

If you really want to get technical...that is a 1930 frame, not a 1929 according to the front crossmember which has the hole added for the radiator over-flow pipe which was added in December 1929 for the 1930 models.

BUT...I think it also pertains to the 1929 also as far as measurments go.

Randy / Cape / Steve - actually, everyone. Randy's drawing is the Wescott drawing (Wescottauto.com). While a lot of us appreciate having it avaialble, it seems to me there are errors and omissions. Ex: the 23-1/4" dimension at the bottom of the rear section doesn't add up. Add the distances between fittings from the same baseline and you get 22-1/8". There's another version of the drawing that has the front cross member in section view that I kind of have a hard spot with, too.

Anyway, I couldn't find a complete dimensional print for my frame (1929) so I started a CAD drawing, but don't want to use my 80+ year old frame as a reference. I'd like to locate bolt holes, sizes, rivets, etc. If anybody knows where it's already been done, that would be great and save me some effort. Otherwise, if anybody be interested in reviewing and giving me input, I'd be happy to post a complete print of the frame on the boards when it's done.

Sorry, I didn't notice Brent had already mentioned the errors. I checked out Steve's website, (excellant, BTW) but it would take a lot of parsing through docs, and I'm not convinced I will find what I'm looking for.

Does anyone have the hole locations for replacement frame horns, as to where the front apron mounting bolts should be?

The fender holes I can use a transfer punch.

This is for a 29 pickup, and the horns had been replaced, and no holes were drilled.
