Default I wan't Air Conditioning in My T-Bird

I would like to have the vents. where the air come out in the dash. Nothing expose only the vents. Is that possible? Any of you ever installed air in your T-Bird. The belts that run it double so no squeal. I did install Air in my 56 Crown Vic. and could not keep the belt from squealing when turning. I tighten so tight I was afraid of it breaking the belt. Maybe I am asking too much.

The vintage air that I have coming has the options of having the vents under the dash or in the dash.I ordered the ones that go in the dash.Of course,I will have to cut out the holes in the dash to fit the vents.I think they are 2 or 2 1/2" vents.
I have not installed one yet so it will be a learning experience for me.
Mine is a 55 ford Ranch Wagon.

I'm not sure I understand why turning would make the AC belt squeal, unless the AC and the PS pump were on the same belt.

The AC compressor on my '55 Y-block runs on a different belt than the PS pump.

My AC belt does squeal if I rev the engine too high while running through the gears. I have the belt adjusted so as to minimize the pressure on the water pump bearings. Ideally the compressor would run on a pulley directly off the crank, but my bracket is not set up that way.

It was installed the way the directions said. I never ran the car hard. In fact I babied it. That why I am asking you fellows which way is the best. Just don't want that big box unit under the dash. That looks awful I think. Down the road I want to put a split seat in the car and a power seat. My wife is a small women and she put the seat all the way up and forward. My knees are up to my chin when she drives. I want to make this car nice for both of us.

The T-Birds had a different crankshaft damper than the car Y-blocks had.
Cars that had power steering used the standard crankshaft damper with an additional bolt-on sheive.
The T-Birds had an available crankshaft damper with built-in sheives for A/C and power steering, so you had three sheives there. They probably also had an extra deep spacer to push the fan-blade out closer to the radiator so the fan would not hit all those sheives.
Notice how the T-Bird Y-block has a deeper water pump pulley, and the generator mount is pulled back further than the car Y-blocks. That is because the T-Bird crankshaft damper main sheive is shallower than the car dampers, which allowed room to have 3 sheives on there.

that ugly black box will be hard to hide... you need an evaporator core up in there somewhere and there ain't a lot of room under that dash. I have a sedan and would like to go that route to hide the evap core and then make some vents at certain places. The box would still be there somewhere...

I have a sedan with the "box" below the dash. I think they look period for our year cars. A Thunderbird might be different.

I don't want that. I don't have as much room as you in a sedan or full size car. I want to hide it as much as I can. Just ports showing and the switches.

Not sure who else sells them but Hill's Thunderbird sells (and installs) a "Perfect Fit" AC kit that replaces the factory heater box and comes with dash vents. Approx $1700 (with the recommended radiator cooling fan)
Shown on page 106 in their catalog, at these links...

Old Redneck, That looks like the Classic Air Perfect Fit unit I put in my bird. The pictures I sent you show how it sits under the dash. You can also see I used different vents.

Hills had a very good reputation, so they probably know the shortcomings and the work arounds for that unit, at least the one I got. Let me know if you, or anyone else wants more info.
