Default Springs, Control Arms on Spark and Throttle Controls

What is the secret to installing the springs on the spark and throttle rods and inserting the retaining pins? They are too stiff to do manually. Oh, I might add that everything is perfectly painted! Thanks for your help, Ed

Use a nut driver to push them up into place while you insert the pin.

Love the home made tool idea. That's the best approach I've seen to install them without messing up new paint. The nut driver does work, but don't expect your paint to survive it.

guess I need a longer nut driver shaft...
...compressing the spring with the nut driver, the rod has to go into the nut driver shaft, at this point, the handle is too wide and hits the column preventing it from moving further down.

Nice job on the special tool. Looks like a small engine valve spring compressor might do similar service... check with your local lawn mower/ small engine repair shop.
