Default Flathead Dunn Camshaft

I have a vintage Dunn camshaft made in Detroit. It has T stamped on the front where the distributor plugs in. It appears to be around .330" lift. Does anyone know what this cam is? What is the duration, advertised and at .050" lift? Any info would be appriciated. You can email me at rmengines at gmail.com. Thanks, Rick

I've got an old Dunn also, but it has a higher lift than than that. I've never found any specs on their cams. If it is a regrind on a Ford core, they were all stamped by Ford with 5T. I've got an engine set up that I use to profile my cams with a degree wheel and dial indicator.

This one is probably a reground ford cam because it has a smaller base circle. The stock cams are .307" lift, this one checks .330". Many stock cams were back ground into performance cams. Rick

I have a Dunn W in my 32 pickup. Dunn advertised in Hot Rod, I think this came from the reprint of the first 12 issues...

Right, I've seen those also, but they really don't tell you anything about the cam. How does your W cam perform?

The Dunn "W" was a good short track cam. Runs good on the street, knew a guy from Detroit that had one in his 40.

Where did you find this advertisment. I can't see the complete ad. The cam on the right side may be the cam I have but I can only see part of it. Thanks, Rick

I worked at Dunn Engineering as a kid sweeping and cleaning. As I remember the track Flathead V-8 cams for short track were used mostly on 1/4 mile tracks such as Motor City Speedway and Flatrock. Dunn also made custom grinds not advertised for six cylinder modifieds. Mark

I'll look in some early 50's HR magazines, I think the ad is there.

I have a Dunn cam which is marked with their logo and the letter "F". I have never seen published spec's for these cams. I did check the lift and timing on this cam. I did this quite a while ago but my notes show:
Int: 20-60
Exh: 60-20
Lift: 0.320
Duration: 260 degrees

The gross numbers are identical to an Isky 77B grind which is listed as a 3/4 race. I originally expected the "F" to mean "Full", but the specs show it to be pretty mild. I have not yet run this cam.

Shown below is a Dunn ad from the June 1953 Hot Rod magazine. They give no details about the cams, but they seem to be more proud of the "W" grind than the others.
