Default Twin post lift

My garage has always been filled with projects and any running repairs
are made in the gravel driveway. That gets old when the temp. drops so
I have a backup vehicle . After too many years of this I am thinking of adding
a bay with a twin post lift.

My question is: can a clamp on member be built/used with the lift arms
to pull engines ???

Cherry pickers are cheap. I would think if a lift could hold a 5k car a 590lbs to 1200lbs motor trans would lift out well. Cherry pickers have an advantage of being mobile.

No disadvantage that I can think of with a 2 post lift. Super nice.

Pretty much the same comment as Tinker. I have a cherry picker and two post lift. The picker is convenient, but the two post lift can be made to work also, a little more hassle.

I have a twin post lift and a cherry picker. I would never consider using my lift like that. For one thing, when a car is on the lift it should be pretty well balanced front to rear so there is not much side load on the posts. I would worry about the anchor bolts working loose with time. Also it is stationary where the cherry picker can be moved. Much easier.

I don't have a two-post lift but it doesn't seem that it would have the precise up/down control that a cherry picker does. And you can move the cherry picker back/forward. With a lift you would need to move the car.

Buy or rent an engine hoist. Not only does it give good control of the lift or drop, but it can be rolled back when to engine is clear. At our shop we have two double post lifts and an overhead crane, but still use the lift on wheels. We wouldn't try to use the big hoists.
