Default Engine going to Flathead City

It's been about three years since we acquired our 38 Deluxe Sedan. I pulled the old tired 81A V8 out and set it aside until some later date when I could get it rebuilt and re-united with the car. I've been running a 59 block in the car for a couple of years now, but have struggled with overheating issues. I am now ready to get the 81A put together and get it back in the car. (I hope)
I live about three hours from Grants Pass, Oregon so I have arranged to drop the motor off at their shop this week. the block has been bored to .060" and valve seats have been ground. I decided to have professionals assemble it as I have never put one together and I want it as correct as possible. I know the color might raise some eyebrows, but it matches part of my color scheme.

It feels like Christmas huh? I like the color. I painted mine cranberry ( a woman's interpretation ) to match the pin stripes and wheels.
Have fun!

My car is painted Black Cherry with flat clear coat to give it an older hot rod "look". I painted the wide-fives this bright yellow and it compliments the overall look of the car. This engine will provide some "pop" under the hood.

I was truly impressed with the guys at Flathead City in Grants Pass Oregon when I dropped off my engine a week ago. They appear to have a well controlled process in place. Gary Howard told me there was roughly 120 years of combined experience with Ford flatheads between the three of them. They do everything from full race engines to the humble stock 85 for my sedan. Gary took time to show me around and discuss what they do. He says they turn out about two engines a week and send them all over the world. So far it's been a great experience.

I wish I was only 3 hours away (I'm 5hrs up I-5) See separate thread re Gary.
My Merc came from Coos Bay - bought new 1950, restored in 1982 in Seattle. Surprisingly I find no rust from those early years on the coast. Something magic about CB salt air?

Good to know you Fred.

Well; Flat head City has some work to repair his rep. RG # 85 member still has not been paid for the cores he sold them. And BBB still rates them 'F'. Newc in Oregon.

If you are referring to my post, I wasn't defending Flathead City. Someone asked about an update and I found the post as an answer. It looks like FredB hasn't been on here since 6/26 to respond. This post started in the summer of 2016 and a lot can change in 3 years.

You're only as good as the last job you did.
