Default Rear end rebuild/using new bearings with old brg

Lets assume the carrier races good. Is it wise to use new bearings with old races on a rebuild? Or are we heading down the road looking for problems of rear end noise and early bearing failure. What are other members thoughts
on the subject?

If the races are good why aren't the bearings?

I just went through at total rebuild of rear end, drive shaft, tranny, and clutch. EVERYONE I talked to said to do it right always replace the races with the bearings which is what I did. I love to do these projects, but I HATE to do them the second time which is what I did a few times when I first got started. Just my humble opinion.

The race is the other half of the bearing. Replace them both. It is always prudent to replace all bearings, races, seals, and gaskets.

Over the years I have people bring a rebuild job to me and say "If the bearing look okay go ahead and reuse them". I tell them I won't take on the job unless all bearings, races, seals, and gaskets are replaced.

With poorly made or counterfeit parts I always cringe if I have to replace a good working part if it is within tolerance.

Always replace the race with a bearing, it's a cardinal rule in the world of pulling wrenches. If you feel the bearings and races are serviceable , that's your call, but try not to mix up bearings to races and mess with established wear patterns. Listen to Mr. Endy, he wrote the manual

Installing a new bearing cone in a used bearing cup is like polishing a car with 100 grit sand paper.

I have seen many bearing cups that needed replacing while the cone was still in serviceable condition and vice versa.

Heres a question along these lines:

When you buy new rotor hub assemblies for any car there are bearing races already pressed in. When you buy wheel bearings it comes with races as well. Do you use the new bearings with the races that are already in the hub or do you knock them out and press the ones supplied with the bearing in?

I've done it both ways and never had issues (except when i had one side a tad too tight and bearing started growling)
