5-Z-1832, they didn't use a punch and chisel.

I do have big hammers and my favorite is a 5lb lead hammer and would use a wrench ??1" maybe.

Actually it was also his solution to me and my two brothers when we were a problem too.

I wonder if there is something else going on here? When you stand in front of the car and look at the nut you are turning it counterclockwise? Sorry to ask something that simple but something just doesn't seem right. Can anyone think of anything else that might explain why the nut is not coming off?

Yes, when I stand in front of the car I am turning the nut to the left.
I thought the same thing.....Did they change the direction of the screw for model B engines from the model A engines?
All my model A books state "a right hand screw"
can't find anything about changing the timing gear in my collection of ford service bullitins either.
The area around the nut is not even rusted or anything strange.

No, they did not change the direction of the threads on the nut. A left-hand thread would be counter-intuitive as a left-hand-threaded nut would tend to loosen in use given the direction of the rotation of the camshaft (there's no lock washer underneath the nut), which is same on all Model A, B, and '33-'34 fours.

It is just stuck.
Is it good to just use a steady pressure, and not jerk it?
I don't want to snap the cam....well... what ever happens happens....
I think we will just apply a steady force to the nut until it gives.

Impact will definitely be more productive than steady pressure.
Have you tried stuffing a rag between the gears to keep them
from turning??

Not just any hammer, but one with at least a 4-5 pound head of copper or lead.

Frank...what is the worse that can happen?

I/e if steady pressure breaks something, or an impact gun does...both ways, things are broke.

I assume you don't have the radiator out yet?...Guessing it should be to get the Impact gun in there.

But, you mentioned your wrench "slipping off"...assume you are using the open end of it?

Imperative in high torque areas, the open end stays straight and flush whilst leveraging.

You'll get it...hang in there!

Mike B raises a good point. I'm assuming that you are using a socket and breaking bar on the special tool for the nut that you bought. Anything else would be prone to slipping off.

Do not worry about breaking the camshaft as it is forged steel.

Wedge a piece of bar stock between the gears, breaker bar with a cheater, and maybe heat up the bolt with a propane torce. Lately I'v been taking my 46 parts car apart with a wrench in one hand and a torch in the other, works good.

Just have someone from your local car club come over with a portable air compressor and an a Impact wrench, and it's off.

bonded the wrench to the nut with locktite
This morning used breaker bar with 6 foot pipe
Head the crack..... Nut came off clean.
Just have to dissolve loctite from wrench or replace the nut.
