Which manifold to use

I have decided to go with 2 2's. I have two manifolds to choose from. An Offenhauser amd an Edelbrock. I noticed that the Edelbrock does not have holes between the intake ports. I think I like the Offy cus it is a little taller

Which carbs are you using? 94’s sometimes hit each other, at least on the triple offy manifolds.
I have both triple intakes , but had Chandler Grove carbs, so I went with the Edelbrock.

Depends on your choice of carburetors. Those heat riser holes were designed for use with Strombergs, and will destroy the power valve on a 94.

I am running the Offy with dual 94's and a Howard M6 cam. CharlieNY advised me to block both of the PV 's. Got a couple of his PV plugs and really like the way it all works.

Not trying to hijack but, is that common with the 94’s on any dual manifold?... I dont remember reading that before...Im going to be running an Edmunds.... thanks,..... Mark

No hijack, the thread is about using the proper manifold...
All early v8 blocks have two small holes on the manifold surface, leading from the center exhaust ports. They supply heat to the manifold for vaporization of the fuel/air mixture, as the manifold and carburetor can get icy cold in service.
The manifolds have matching holes, accepting the exhaust, and allowing it to heat the manifold while crossing to the opposite bank.
Early manifolds had that passage run all the way up top, showing a fourth hole, larger than the three stud holes. Later manifolds had only the stud holes, as the power valve in all 94 carbs is exposed and vulnerable to excess heat.
(Some guys block the heat risers, with mixed results.)

i used an Offenhauser 1076 on an otherwise stock 1950 239 motor and was quite pleased with how it pepped the motor up.... ran 49 jets and 3.5 power valves.

This is a good time to plug JWL's book He covers most intakes ans carbs. However for street, low speed performance is more important.

I don't know what motor or carbs you are going to use but I am running a 59AB with the Offy Std Dual carb manifold and 97's. The Std Dual lets you use a generator or alt in the stock location. I also added 1" alum risers under the carbs to raise them up. That made installing the linkage and plumbing the carbs a lot easier. I cant say if the risers made any difference in performance but the engine starts instantly and runs strong and cool. Worked for me.

if you want a nice trouble free running car leave it alone the flathead runs rich enought with out the help of more carbs

i'm having a flathead built right now (my first) and am going with the edebrock slingshot 2x2. we'll see maybe by summer. . .

I'm with Pete on this! This site and all the others have discussed this many times - the plastic lines will harden and easily split/crack . . . which can lead to an engine fire. To me - they are just not "cool enough" to be worth the risk.

I hate to be a wet blanket, but for driveability, a small four barrel (390 Holley, WCFB, early Rochester or Stromberg) is a bit better than a dual carb setup. I only use them on cars with hoods, though.

But you lose the cool factor! Guess that's why you only run them under a hood!!!
