Default Model A Tire Gauge

Does anyone know how to take one of these apart without damaging it. I picked up a new face plate for this model A tire gauge, but I can't figure out how to take it apart. I know it must be possible because I have seen them restored for a MUCH higher price then what I payed for mine, but I don't know how to remove the lens without causing damage.

I agree with Don. The replacement plate just looks too white.

Wish I could get mine working though.

I agree also and would leave it original. To answer your question, the bezel pries off like the back of a watch.

The second I saw the picture I was going to say just what Don said. It is best left original when the face looks that nice.

As far as making it usable and to zero the needle, that can be done, but I'm not the guy to tell how.

Ditto Don's advice. Leave the gauge alone. I use the reproduction dial face plate to convert non-Ford gauges.

Ok you have all convinced me. The easiest course (do nothing) is the one I'll take! Thanks.

Just tried. Don't feel bad, mine does't work (registers 20psi from my truck tire inflated to 40psi) either. The most expensive part of yours is the little leather pouch. They go for ridiculous prices on E-bay.

I just picked up an original gauge. I haven’t tested its accuracy yet. The face looks alright, but the lens is pretty hard to see through. I know this is an old thread, but I was wondering if it’s good sense to replace the lens only? Conversely, is there a proper means to clean up the original lens so I can see through it?

I did replace the lens on one I have .The replacement lens was plastic and I had to grind it some to get it back in place .
The end result turned out fine and you can't tell it from a good original.

The old lens might be able to be cleaned up by hand polishing, but it's much easier to install a new lens from A&L, which is what I did about 20 years ago. Usually they don't work anyway, so it's just for show.
