easiest way I found to get the rods out is to spray them with kroil, tap them out about 3/8 or so & chuck a variable speed drill on them giving them a slow spin & drawing them out

Dad uses 2 drills one on each end to break the rods loose

Hey Keith,
I do not have a 'points' A and no welder. I brazed my hood cracks and they came out nice for a neophyte ! Drilled a tiny hole at end of each crack to stop its' running on first.

Insert a short steel rod inside the hollow hood rod so you don't collapse it by tightening the drill chuck.

By the way, a trick my father (and I) have used to remove and insert hinge rods is to tap the rod out enough to get an electric drill chuck to grab the rod and then spin it with the drill and pull (or push) to get the rod out/in. Works great.

He used this trick to get aircraft piano hinge rods installed (Aircraft sheet metal man, 9th AF, WW2).

Be careful with the drill method. Go slow. If too powerful a drill and if the rod is really tight you can twist and bend your hood

I like Tom's idea of inserting round stock into the hood rod, but to late now, I already mangled the old rod taking it out.
I will not repeat that mistake putting in the new rod.
Lots of great ideas and advice, that you all.
