Default 20 inch lock ring rim rivets

Had some tires mounted on my old 20 inch rims, poor kid... I guess after a tire is on for 30+ years they dont want to come off Anyways I noticed the next day that one rivets was gone and one was probably broke since the spoke was separated an 1/8 inch from the outer ring. He was really going to town with the sledge hammer... you can tell by looking at it that its a recent thing. I'm not blaming the kid, i'm glad they were willing to change the tires. But now i need to fix it and I'm wondering what other folks have done. The one thing thats bugging me is that when the tire was off and he was cleaning up the rim I dont remember seeing any rivet heads at all. I'm not sure how that is possible.

I'm going to track down some solid steel rivets to replace the 2 broken ones, figured I'd post on here just to get some input from anyone else thats gone thru the same thing. I've never done solid steel rivets before, how much longer do you want the rivets vs the material the rivet is going thru to flatten on the other side?
