Removing tar from floor pan
In a recent reply to a thread Tinker mentioned using a torch and putty knife to remove tar from the floor pan.It can be done quickly and easily by using a Harbor Freight Multifunction Power Tool with the flat knife blade. It's the one that's about two inches wide and has a radiused sharp edge.Peels that stuff off like crazy.

Re: Removing tar from floor pan
Now you tell me...
It actually didn't take too long with the torch and putty knife (wire brush for tight spots). The torch was just to soften it some, only a lite heating was needed and the putty knife would just glide right through it. Plus I had all the tools handy. But, you can never have enough tools. Re: Removing tar from floor pan
Depending on how thick and fresh the tar is .... less flames too. I assume the pans would not be in the car while doing the torching.
Chipping sounds good. If one could first fit the pan in a freezer for a few minutes, it would probably chip-off easier. That's what my wife does with her pots and pans that have baked-on food .... saves hot water. (no one comes here for dinner anymore ) |

Re: Removing tar from floor pan
Saw another thread where someone used dry ice on the topside to freeze it and hit the metal with a hammer or mallet to break it up.

Re: Removing tar from floor pan
I dissolved it from the inside of a '39 door, with brake/carb clean and scraped with a razor blade... this would have been a good tool for the job!
Thanks!
